This critique is useful in understanding the changes in Gregor’s character as a result of him changing into an insect. The author proves that Gregor finds “comfort”, experiences “pleasure”, and feels “free” as a bug, although at the same time cannot completely escape the pressures of life. Ultimately this critique shows that the story’s ending is neither good nor bad, but a combination of the two.
